Here at Isla Canela next Saturday September 22 a new edition of the International Canoeing Regatta of the Guadiana River will be held . It is expected that  more than 200 canoeists from clubs throughout Andalusia and Extremadura and the Portuguese Algarve and Alentejo. This is so unusual that it is hard to explain. It is not so beautiful or so exciting that you can’t miss it, but if you go to see it, you spend time scratching your head in wonder at the  British mindset of the 1800s.
